III International meeting on Lorentzian Geometry
Castelldefels (Barcelona, Spain) November 21-23, 2005 |
Castelldefels is a seaside city near Barcelona, in the Mediterranean coast. It has a population of 60.000, and its beach is one of the most attractives in the area. Although the weather is benign (with about 300 sunny days per year), in Autumn it is common that it rains violently (with rates reaching 50 l/m2 in an hour!), so don't forget your umbrella. The sessions of the meeting will take place in the Aula P001, located at the C4 Building of the Escola Politècnica Superior de Castelldefels (EPSC). You can arrive at the EPSC by car, bus, train or walking from Castelldefels. Here you will encounter some details. By car, you can access the Castelldefels campus taking the exit #46 of the C-32 highway (formerly A-16), or also driving along the C-31 highway (formerly N-246). There is a car park beside the Canal Olímpic (inside the campus all the streets are pedestrian). There are several bus lines departing from Barcelona that have bus stops near the campus (mainly in Castelldefels): Lines L95, L96, L97 and also the nocturnal line N14 (you can check the stops here). A map of the bus routes near the campus can be found here. Accessing by train is one of the easiest options. The line C-2 of RENFE-Rodalies has a stop at 400m of the C4 Building, called "Castelldefels". From the train station to the campus there is a 7-minutes walk. It takes 25 minutes to arrive to Castelldefels from the main station Barcelona-Sants. If you arrive at the El Prat airport, you can take the train line C-1 at the terminal, and then change to line C-2 at the El Prat de Llobregat stop (see the map here).
As a touristic city, Castelldefels has a lot of good hotels, but the most part of them are located at the beach. If you choose one of these hotels, you must know that walking from the beach to the EPSC campus takes about 30 minutes, but you can also go to the train station called "Castelldefels Platja" and then take the line C-2 (to Barcelona) and get down the next stop (Castelldefels). Then you are a 7-minutes walk away from the campus. Here you can find a list of some hotels. We have an special offer for accomodation at the Barcelona Classic: 50 euros each double room (with the possibility of single occupation). The price includes breakfast and car parking. If you are interested in this option, please send a mail to the organizers.
There are also some hostals inside the city, which are cheaper but usually of lower quality. If you are interested in this option, contact with the organizers (José A. Vallejo).
There are some places of
touristic interest in Castelldefels, like the castle that gives its name to the
city (Castell de Fels), the Torre Barona, the masia de Can Gomar or the Santa
María de Castelldefels' church. Inside the Cova Fumada there is an archeologic site.
